  • Quilt top fabric plus coordinating background fabric
  • Pre-made binding
  • Printed pattern with fabric requirements listed
  • Options for beginner through intermediate makers
  • First Quilt Friendly

If this is your first traditional quilt, start here. These kits lean on simple, repeatable shapes like the snowball block and the half-square triangle, so you build confidence with your sewing machine one finished block at a time.

  • Confident Beginner

Once you've got a few blocks under your belt, these kits introduce a little more piecing, like the patch block style of a granny square or a scrappy quilt made from fabric pieces in colors you already love.

  • Intermediate

For makers ready for a traditional quilt block with more structure, this level includes patterns like the sawtooth star, churn dash, and center diamond, plus more involved designs like the double wedding ring.

Hi, I'm Erica

I started Clover Cottons because I wanted a quilt shop that felt fresh, welcoming, and inspiring.

Instead of overwhelming you with thousands of choices, I carefully curate fabrics, quilt kits, and notions I genuinely love, and hope you'll love too.

Whether you're making your first quilt or your next heirloom, I'm so glad you're here.

Why You'll Love Clover Cottons Quilting Patterns

Thoughtfully Curated, Ready to Sew

Every pattern in this collection is hand-picked by Erica, not pulled from a catalog. If a quilting pattern is here, it's because she has sewn it herself or loves the finished look enough to share it with you.

Traditional Blocks, Modern Fabrics

This is where modern traditionalism lives. You'll recognize traditional quilt patterns like the granny square and star quilts, reimagined in bold colors and prints that feel current.

Everything You Need for the Quilt Top

No separate trips for binding or background fabric. Each kit is built around one traditional pattern, with every piece included.

Beginner-Friendly and Fun to Make

Clear instructions walk you through each quilt block, including guidance on seam allowance and which side of your fabric is the right side, so nothing feels intimidating.

Designed to Inspire Creativity

Many of these blocks have been made by quilters for well over a century. They're the same blocks you'll spot at a modern quilt guild meeting or hear about in American quilt history. Making one of your own connects you to that tradition while still feeling completely yours.

Classic Quilts FAQs

What's the difference between a traditional and a modern quilt pattern?

A traditional quilt pattern uses classic blocks like the star blocks, often pieced in a repeating grid. A modern quilt takes those same building blocks and plays with scale, color, and negative space for a more graphic look. Our Classic Quilts collection blends both, so you get classic quilt designs with a modern twist.

Do I need to buy backing and batting separately?

Yes. Each kit includes the fabric for the quilt top, background fabric, and pre-made binding, but backing and batting are not included, so you can choose the finishing option that fits your project.

What is seam allowance, and why does it matter?

Seam allowance is the space between your stitching line and the raw edge of your fabric pieces. Every pattern in this collection lists the seam allowance you'll need, usually a quarter inch, so your half-square triangles and other blocks line up correctly when pieced together.

What does it mean when a pattern asks me to draw a diagonal line?

Many patterns, including ones for a half-square triangle or snowball block, ask you to draw a diagonal line corner to corner on a square of fabric before stitching and trimming. It's a small step, but it keeps your seams lined up and your finished block sitting flat.
